ACCOUNTS PAYABLE CLERK – Part-time
Under administrative direction of the Assistant City Manager - Financial Services, performs routine clerical, administrative, and data processing in administering accounts payable functions of the city.

Performs quality and timely connects and disconnects water and sprinkler services within the city of Commerce. Installs, repairs and inspects water meters, meter pits and meter reading equipment, valves, pressure regulators and flow testing meters. Responds to customer service requests, including but not limited to: connections, disconnects, rereading meters, and checking for leaks.
Under administrative direction, performs a variety of highly responsible and confidential administrative, secretarial, and executive support duties for the City Manager’s Office; to relieve staff of clerical and administrative tasks and to complete other work as assigned. The primary responsibility is to manage the administrative work of the City Manager’s Office and to ensure efficient service for the Office of the City Manager, City Council, and the public. Responsibilities require tact, discretion, diplomacy, initiative and independent judgment, as well as a working knowledge of City activities and a strong ability to implement City administrative policies and procedures. This class is distinguished from other office administrative classes in that the nature, scope, and diversity of responsibilities require a broader understanding of all City functions and their interdependence and the competence to perform duties that require the exercise of discretion with respect to matters of significance.
Under general administrative direction, this position establishes, manages and implements effective communications and public involvement strategies to provide timely, accurate, and logical information to the community. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for overseeing and coordinating citywide communications and messages and facilitating information dissemination, expanding communication resources for outreach to the city and residents using existing and new technology and media. This position must apply a significant degree of initiative and independent judgment. Performs a variety of internal and external communication via content creation and through the dissemination of information via various platforms on behalf of the city.
Performs account reconciliations of subsidiary systems to the General Ledger including bank accounts, accrued liabilities, inventories and supplies, and prepares and posts a variety of journal entries. Coordinates and performs professional accounting functions that involve the research and analysis of financial transactions and the reporting of municipal finances; provides accounting guidance and assistance to City departments as directed by the Finance Director and in regard to the application and interpretation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Federal and State regulations; Provides guidance and assistance to support staff on accounting policies and procedures; performs other accounting related duties relative to their area of assignment and at the direction of the Finance Director.
