The distribution system consists of fifty-five miles of water lines ranging from 3/4 inch service lines to 16 inch mains. The system stores water in two 500,000 gallon water towers located on Pecan St. and Mangum St.. Also well water is stored in a one million gallon ground storage tank located on Martin Luther King Dr.. The system maintains a water pressure of 65 psi and continuously pumps an adequate supply of fresh water to the distribution. Water Distribution personnel maintain the water lines in the City to the highest level possible so that residents will not have their water service disrupted due to broken lines. They also install new water lines as needed, make new water taps, install and repair all fire hydrants, install and raise water valves and install new meters and change out non-registering water meters within the City Limits. A meter maintenance technician reads all water meters. In a regular month he may read over 2,500 water meters. Future goals include, the continuation of the improve the high level of service and to better serve the residents of the City of Commerce.
